Description
Volume 1 of a three volume collection of Roman poets by Marc-Antoine de Muret. Muret was a "French humanist and classical scholar" whose life was scored by success from his publications and social exclusion due to his homosexuality ("Marc-Antoine De Muret").

This volume contains a collection of the works of Catullus (84-54 BCE), "in full Gaius Valerius Catullus," one of the most prominent lyric poets of ancient Rome (Havelock). Catullus lead "a group of poets who created a native idiom for Roman poetry" (Garrison).

The book bears the seal of Aldus Manutius, an Italian printer who was "the leading figure of his time in printing, publishing, and typography." Aldus's most prominent work was in the publishing of many popular Greek and Latin texts. This book was published after Aldus' death ("Aldus Manutius").
