The True History of Joshua Davidson: Christian and Communist
|
Description |
This book was part of a series of "Penny Popular Novels," an effort to simplify famous works of literature and sell them for cheap so that they could be more accessible to those of little wealth (Wagner).
The story of Joshua Davidson is meant as a parallel of the life of Jesus Christ ("Joshua" being an alternate form of "Jesus," and "Davidson" read as "David's son"). The main point of the novel postulates that if Christ was to come to the latter-days and preach His gospel, it would necessarily lead to communism. The author argues that communism, the idea that all things should be common among all people, is central to Christ's teachings (Warner). * * * Wagner, David Paul. “Penny Popular Novels (The Masterpiece Library).” Publishing History.
