Title
The Word of Wisdom in Practical Terms
Description
16 page pamphlet called The Word of Wisdom in Practical Terms, which was an address delivered in the Tabernacle at Salt Lake City, Utah in May of 1934. The services specifically talked about no longer allowing the use of tobacco against church members, a movement which the first presidency endorsement. President Charles W. Nibley begins the service, and is followed by Elder Joseph J. Cannon, who introduces Paul Kimball and Creed Haymond--both individuals who had excelled both academically and in the sporting world. Elder Kimball, by implementing the Word of Wisdom, had, with a team of freshmen at Oxford, beat all of the other freshmen teams in the yearly rowing competition. Other testimony and evidence is given as reasons for following the Word of Wisdom. Creed Haymond tells of when he ran College Track at the University of Pennsylvania, and was the captain of the team. He refused his coach's invitation to drink some wine as a tonic the night before race day. Brother Haymond asked the Lord for confirmation of the Word of Wisdom before he went to sleep. The next morning, all of the other men were vomiting and sick, while Haymond was fine. He won his races, and even set a world record for the 220 meter race. He closes with his testimony, as does President Nibley, closing the meeting.
