Title
La Bibbia Di Borso d'Este Vol II
Description
The Bibbia di Borso d'Este, named after its commissioner Borso d'Este (1413-71), was meant as a "demonstration of the splendor of the House of Este, which at the time was competing with Florence and the court of the Medici for international status." The entire volume was illuminated by a team of artists lead by Taddeo Crivelli adn Franco dei Russi and the text was written by Pietro Paolo Marone, a prominent Remaissance scribe. The original book rests in the Biblioteca Estense in Modena (World Digital Library).

This facsimile was created to commemorate the eightieth birthday of Pope John XXIII. The translation of the dedication reads as follows:

"To his holiness John XXIII on his eightieth birthday with the devotion of the people of his land the Banca Popolare di Bergamo and the Poligrafiche Bolis dedicate this edition of the Bibbia di Borso D'Este born from Italian faith and art five hundred years ago."
