A Leaf of the Gutenburg Bible
|
Description |
Johannes Gutenberg was the inventor of the first printing press of its kind which swept across Europe and subsequently the world as one of the most efficient purveyors of the written word. Gutenberg's press made the written word, and the Word of God, more accessible to the masses than ever before. The Bibles printed by Gutenberg are among some of the most coveted books on Earth.
The book, printed by Gabriel Wells, a notable antiquarian bookseller, contains a single leaf from one of Gutenberg's Bibles ("Gabriel Wells (1930)"). The leaf comes from the book of Job and exhibits beautiful illuminations of red and blue. The recto side contains the end of Job 37 and Job 38 which continues on the verso side. Job 39 is shown in entirety after which the chapter heading of Job 40 is written. * * * “Gabriel Wells (1930).” Antiquarian Booksellers' Association.
