Description
"Thomas Matthew was a pseudonym adopted by John Rogers who was a friend of William Tyndale to conceal his own identity. This version is a composite book made up of Tyndale's Pentateuch & [New Testament] and part from Coverdale's Bible. John Rogers was burned at Smithfield in 1555.

"This Bible is called "the Treacle Bible" from its rendering of Jeremiah 8:22, "For there is no more tryacle at Gilead, there is no phicicion, that can heale..."

It is also called "the Bug Bible" from its rendering of Psalm 91:5, "So that thou shalt not nede to be afrayed for anye bugges by nyghte, nor for the arrow that flyeth by day" (qtd. from archival notes stored in manuscript).

This Bible contains various unique characteristics such as a title page hand drawn by a previous owner in 1907, hand-added pages from a younger Bible, and many handwritten notes from the owner(s).
