Table Talks of Martin Luther
Tifchreden Doctor Martini Lutheri
Description
This book contains a collection of various comments made by Martin Luther around the dinner table, noted by another boarder who was a student of Luther's. It pays special attention to Luther's wife, Katherine von Bora, and her talents "as a skillful household manager and as a partner in theological conversations." Before she was married to Luther, Katherine was a nun who lived in a convent until she heard the teachings of Luther and left her life there.

At a time when Luther was under scrutiny for his lack of celibacy as a cleric, "Tischreden" displayed the virtue that comes from marriage among the clergy. Additionally, Katherine became a powerful example of what a Protestant woman should be: a cognizant student of the scriptures and an equal partner in marriage.

A note on the back of the front cover: "Original stamped pigskin binding with effigies of the Saints & date 1568"
