Reply of S. Torquato Tasso, to the letter of Bastian Rossi, Accademia della Crusca, in defense of his dialogue of Honest Pleasure, and said letter: and a speech of the same Tasso, above the opinion made by Mr. Franc. Patrico, in defense of Lodouico Ariosto

Torquato Tasso is considered the "greatest Italian poet of the late Renaissance" and is best know for his epic poem "Jerusalem Liberated" which documents "the first capture of Jerusalem during the First Crusade" ("Torquato Tasso").

This book is Tasso's response to harsh criticism he received from Bastian Rossi of the Accademia della Crusca, an academic institution focused on the appreciation and preservation of the Italian language and arts ("Origins and Foundation"). The criticism was pointed at Tasso's dialogue called "Honest Pleasure, in which he discovers some very just notions with regard to civil, but especially religious liberty" (Black). It also includes a speech made by Tasso.
