Description |
A facsimile of the illuminated manuscript detailing the events in the life of Mary the Mother of Jesus. The illuminations were done by Jean Bourdichon, a French artist who "served as official court painter to four successive French Kings: Louis XI, Charles VIII, Louis XII, and François I." While he created many works of art, he is most well known for his illuminations ("Jean Bourdichon").
The facsimile is accompanied by a book in German containing information about the original manuscript by Eberhard König. * * * “Jean Bourdichon.” The J. Paul Getty in Los Angeles. Accessed October 28, 2020. http://www.getty.edu/art/collection/artists/1144/jean-bourdichon-french-1457-1521/. |
