Description
This book contains writings from Cosimo Bartoli, an Italian " diplomat, mathematician, philologist, and humanist." The writings are mainly a critique of Dante's works, but it also includes various opinions of the author on the music, art, and architecture of his native Italy (Miller).

The binding is made from animal hide and was printed by Francesco de Franceschi of Venice. Francesco owned "a press and bookshop named Al segno della Pace (At the Sign of the Peace) located by the Piazza San Marco (Duroselle-Melish). His seal can be seen on the title page of the manuscript, depicting a seated woman with the word "PACE" behind here as a reference to his shop.
