About the Author
David L. Crowder
Idaho native David L. Crowder was born in American Falls. As a child he moved with his family to Boise Valley and graduated from Kuna High School. After service in the United States Navy, he attended Idaho State University in Pocatello where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1965 and a master's degree in 1966. He received a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Utah in 1972.
He taught history classes at Ricks College for twenty years before leaving to become director of the Idaho State Historical Society. Currently, he is teaching history, creative writing, and American and English literature at Garden Valley High School in Garden Valley, Idaho.
Dr. Crowder has taken a great interest in preserving the history of Idaho. He served for several years on the Board of Trustees of the Idaho State Historical Society and for five years as its director. Currently, he is serving on the Placerville (Idaho) Historic Preservation Commission. He has been involved in several oral history projects, directed the production of a 16-mm film about the Snake River, written five other books including the centennial history of Rexburg, and published several historical articles.
He has been involved in community affairs such as a member of the Rexburg Kiwanis Club (past president), Parent Teachers Association, Boy Scouts, and Idaho Centennial Commission. He and his wife, JoAnne, live in the small historic mining town of Placerville where he is a member of the city council.
